If you knew me, would you be proud of me? Eaglewing's tail lashed as he prowled through Thunderclan's undergrowth. The thought came unbidden to his mind and he pushed it angrily away. He had better things to think about than a father who had never bothered to know him. He concentrated again on the hunt.
Did you leave me because I am an abomination? Eaglewing hissed and longed to rake his claws against something. His fur prickled and he flexed his claws. He paused for a moment, looking up at the bright sky. It was midday and no sign of the nighttime stars could be seen. Eaglewing couldnt help searching the heavens, wondering if Starclan would strike him down at any moment.
Are you even alive? Eaglewing didnt know why he couldnt simply suppress the thoughts all together. He shook his head with irritation and continued to stalk. He pushed aside ferns and leaves of low hanging branches as he searched for prey. He was being careless, this much he knew. His tail still lashed, disturbing the occasional fallen leaf. His ears perked as he searched his surroundings for any sign of a careless animal that could become the next meal of one of his hungry clanmates.
All I wanted was to be just like you, but I never knew you. Eaglewing sighed with defeat and finally came to a stop. He was too distracted to hunt and was getting no where. He sat down, his tail swishing against the ground. He gave his chest a few quick licks and looked off into the distance. He wasnt really taking in any of his surroundings, nothing seemed real. He immersed himself in his own thoughts.
Why didnt he want me? Where is my mother? Who were they? What am I? Why wasnt I enough? How could he leave me? Where do I belong? Am I even of Thunderclan blood? The questions flew at him the moment he relaxed his careful hold on control. These were all questions he asked himself every day, each of them unanswered. He had never known his father or mother, never even known what clan they were from or who they were. He had been abandoned at birth along with Falconheart and Kestrelflight. They could still be alive for all he knew, maybe even one of them lived among Thunderclan. He didnt understand how they could leave him, even if he was obviously Half-Clan. He didnt understand why he wasnt enough. He looked up towards the sky imploringly.
And yet I still want to be just like you.

Nightfeather glanced around her surroundings before continuing out into the forest. It was a beautiful morning, the sun just rising over the horizon. She stretched out her body, relaxing as the bright sun soaked into her pelt. Though it was still Leaf-Bare, the sun was quite warm and Nightfeather hoped that it would soon bring Newleaf. With one final stretch of her silver claws, she set off into the undergrowth. It had been a while since Nightfeather had gone off hunting by herself. She usually went with a patrol or organized patrols until she had to do other things. It was nice to go off by herself sometimes and let her mind wander. Her mind wandered to how well things were going. The clan was surviving, though prey wasn't exactly plentiful. But Leaf-Bare did that to Clan life, so she sighed and continued forward. Nightfeather smelled something that made her nose twitch. Two mice, side by side, were scrabbling around in their endless search for food. She instantly dropped into a hunting crouch, her eyes fixed on the mice. Her black pelt blended in with the morning shadows, and all that could be seen of her was her eyes. When Nightfeather was less than a tail-length away from the mice, A bird up above her in the trees let out a warning call when it had apparently seen her. The two mice froze instantly. Just as they were about to run, Nightfeather shot out of the shadows. With lightning speed, she bit down on the fist mouse's neck and then pinned the other one down with her paw and gave a nip that instantly killed it. Nighfeather purred as she lay the two mice before her. It was very rare to find two mice together, even in the warm moons of Greenleaf. The Clan is sure to be happy with this kill. Nightfeather told herself as she picked up the two mice and started to head back to camp. On the way she spotted Eaglewing, a warrior from the clan that seemed lost in his thoughts. Even so, he seemed like a good cat to have a conversation with since lately she had been mainly talking to the kits. Not that she didn't like to, because she really did love the kits, but still it was nice to have a good talk with a warrior every once and a while. With a smile, she trotted up to Eaglewing, dropping her mice to speak. "Hello, Eaglewing. How's the prey running for you this morning?" She asked the warrior, hoping that he had enough time to stop and chat for a while.

Eaglewing hadn't noticed Nightfeather's approach and only snapped out of his own thoughts as he heard her voice. "Hello, Eaglewing. How's the prey running for you this morning?" Ealgewing swung his head on his deputy's direction and gave her a respectful nod in greeting. His tail flicked against his paws and his lips twitched upwards ever so slightly in the smallest of smiles. His eyes were warm, though guarded. "Truth be told, I'm not sure. I intended to hunt, but my intent got lost somewhere along my train of thought." He shrugged slightly, returning his gaze to the horizon. He was open and sociable by nature, but for once he found himself lacking in words. He had been waiting for someone to take a chance on him, and now it was here, and he was too pensive. He withheld a sigh that passed mutedly through his parted lips.
He glanced at Nightfeather through his periphreal vision, shifting his paws slightly. Why was she talking to him? He had been an outcast among Thunderclan since the morning he had arrived. He was treated with open hostility and suspicion. He was a monster, a disgusting living crime against the sacred Warrior Code. He was half-clan, and nobody even knew which clans he got his blood heritage from. His sister, Kestrelflight, lived in Riverclan and his other sister, Falconheart, resided in Windclan. They were spread out, all equally disliked, untrusted and generally loathed. His thoughts returned him to his original querry, why was Nightfeather taking the time? He was slightly intrigued now. He glanced at the mice in her paws, nodding half to himself.
"I see, however, that hunting is good for you this morning. Either that or the prey has simply been scampering eagerly into your paws." He chuckled softly. His voice had a deep bass ring to it and his tail waved slightly before settling back around his paws once more. The broad shouldered tabby warrior smiled, his eyes twinkling with a teasing light. He had pushed thoughts of his family away. If he had one chance at a normal conversation, a normal relationship with a clanmate, he was going to take it. He would have been a fool to pass it up. He tilted his head towards Nightfeather curiously. "Are you alone or is there a patrol on its way?" He didn't often see Nightfeather alone. She was a busy warrioress, if he remembered correctly.

Nightfeather watched as the warrior turned his head and nodded with respect towards her. Nightfeather's fur flushed in embarrassment. It was quite embarrassing to be treated with respect sometimes. "Truth be told, I'm not sure. I intended to hunt, but my intent got lost somewhere along my train of thought." Eaglewing told her. Nightfeather chuckled. It was perfectly normal for a cat to take a walk to clear their mind. Eaglewing nodded towards her two freshly caught mice. "I see, however, that hunting is good for you this morning. Either that or the prey has simply been scampering eagerly into your paws." The tom told Nightfeather. Nightfeather nodded happily at Eaglewing. "As a matter of fact, I have! The prey is running good for me today I suppose." Nightfeather told Eaglewing. Nightfeather noticed that Eaglewing's eyes were guarded. She might be young for a deputy, but she knew what cats were thinking. She was completely aware that Eaglewing was a half-clan cat. The whole clan was aware of it. But even so, full Thunderclan or not, Nightfeather believed that each cat should be treated the same. She wasn't openly hostile towards Eaglewing unlike some of the other cats in the Clan. She smiled at the tom and Started licking her paw. Besides, he wasn't a bad cat at all. Others just needed to get to know his fun side! Eaglewing tilted his head towards her. "Are you alone or is there a patrol on its way?" He asked her. Nightfeather giggled to herself. "Truth be told, i'm actually by myself this morning. It's nice to go out by myself every once and a while, you know?" Nightfeather told him. "But of course I would be happy if you could accompany me for hunting." She added. She looked at Eaglewing curiously through her glowing amber eyes and wondered how he would respond.

Eaglewing noticed Nightfeather flush with embarassment at the respect he showed her. Eaglewing was observant. Some had even gone as far as to call him calculative, analytical. Eaglewing was neither of these things. He was very simply cautious. He looked towards Nightfeather for a long moment, then looked away again. His gaze only returned to hers when he heard her chuckled quietly. He wondered what had caused such a cheerful mood. Eaglewing was not a normally serious or solemn tom. In fact he was quite lighthearted, more of a joker by nature. His heavy thoughts had gotten him into a pensive mood, however, and it was rubbing off heavily. Now she was nodding quite happily towards Eaglewing "As a matter of fact, I have! Prey is running good for me today I suppose."
Eaglewing nodded, sending her a warm smile. He shouldn't let his pensive mood take away from her happiness. He could see he had made her slightly uncomfortable and was not eager to chase away the one cat who had attempted to show him kindness. He was rewarded by her returned smile and the nonchalant way she was licking one raised paw. "Truth be told, I'm actually by myself this morning. It's nice to go out by myself every once and a while, you know?" Eaglewing smiled and nodded. Yes, yes he did know. He was the king of sneaking out on walks alone. Though most often his paws brought him to the borders with Windclan or Riverclan.
He never wanted to risk being found by his clanmates. They already didn't trust him. He didn't need to give them a reason to think he was considering abandoning the clan or was mourning over Riverclan. He was happier in Thunderclan than he had ever been in Riverclan, excepting the absence of his sisters Falconheart and Kestrelflight. His eyes grew pensive again for a moment, but he pushed the heavy thoughts threatening to weigh down his mood. He smiled again at Nightfeather, his ears twitching at her following words. "But of course I would be happy if you could accompany me for hunting." She was gazing at him curiously and Eaglewing couldn't help by grin in response. Had he unknowingly become some sort of clan mystery? He found it quite amusing.
"Well then, lead the way. I was taught that ladies go first." He winked teasingly at Nightfeather though his smile was slightly strained. He wanted to push past his dower mood and onto something more lighthearted. Perhaps this was what he needed. He was willing to give it a try.

Nightfeather was surprised when Eaglewing took up her offer. She had figured that he would have come up with some excuse, but apparently he thought better of it. She purred with delight. It was always fun to get to know a cat better. "Well then, lead the way. I was taught that ladies go first." Eaglewing told her with a teasing wink. Nightfeather giggled out loud and blushed as she meowed, "Of course, Eaglewing!" and headed on her way with him behind her. Nightfeather spaced out while searching for prey. So this is what it feels like to be friends with a tom? She asked herself. Ever since she was a little kit, Nightfeather knew that she wanted to aim to be deputy. Because of this she told herself not to make friends with toms, just in case she might accidentally fall in love with them. Every cat in the Clans knew that Deputys or Leaders that were she-cats could not have kits unless they gave them up to another queen. But even so, Nightfeather sighed. She would have liked to know the life of a queen, even if it was just for a day. All she-cats dream of experiencing motherhood one day, so she hoped that it was just normal. Nothing strange about it, right? Nightfeather snapped out of her daydream and focused on the hunt once more. Almost right away she noticed a small scrawny shrew digging around for food. She dropped into a crouch and was about to pounce when it paused and then quickly darted to the safety of it's burrow. With a frustrating yowl, Nightfeather gave chase, but it was no use. The shrew would not be coming out anytime soon. "Fox-dung." Nightfeather hissed, before turning around to see what Eaglewing had to say about her missed catch.

Eaglewing raised an amused brow at the giggle that bubbled forth from Nightfeather as well as her blush. What did I say? He shook his head slightly perplexed and followed after Nightfeather. She seemed distinctly ill at ease, nervous even. She had seemed so bubbly before, perhaps she hadn't expected him to accept her offer. He wasn't sure. She seemed distracted, lost in her own thoughts. Eaglewing could identify with that. Sometimes he couldn't decide whether he loathed being left to his own thoughts, or reveled in the silence of privacy. He shook his head, concentrating on the hunt again. Eagleing refocused in time to see Nightfeather yowl and chase after a shrew that was obvioulsy eluding her. Eaglewing's muscles bunched and he leapt - using his superior size and long legs to soar over Nightfeather. He lashed out a paw and hooked the shrew as it darted into it's burrow.
With a quick bite to the neck, Eaglewing killed it. He turned back around to Nightfeather who had apparently given up and turned to him for his opinion - but now he was in front of her with the prey dangling from his jaws. He dropped the shrew on the ground, his chest heaving as he panted. He was quick footed - some said it might be because he possibly had Windclan heritage. He wasn't sure. He wasn't sure WHAT he was. He panted slightly and grinned his lopsided grin over at Nightfeather. His eyes twinkled and he winked at her. "Should we call it lucky or a team effort?" He extended a paw and pushed the dead shrew towards Nightfeather. His tail flicked against his hind legs and he tilted his head, waiting for his deputy's reply.

Nightfeather's mouth gaped open as she watched Eaglewing soar over her head and catch the shrew with a nicely aimed blow. When he turned around with the kill in his mouth, Nightfeather let out a mrrow of laughter. "That was the best catch I have seen in a long time!" She meowed to the warrior. "Should we call it lucky or a team effort?" Eaglewing asked her with a wink and lopsided grin. Nightfeather let out another burst of laughter. "I would say both! Nicely done! I was almost certain that the shrew had gotten away!" She meowed. Nightfeather was surprised when Eaglewing pushed the shrew towards her. "You caught this shrew! It would be weird if I ate it when you most definitely caught it." She meowed with a flustered voice. This was most definitely the first time any cat had offered her their kill, even though she was the deputy. She blushed and waited for Eaglewing's reply.

Eaglewing raised an amused brow and flashed a grin Nightfeather's way. He waved a paw, indicating the shrew the deputy had rejected with embarassment. "I thought we had agreed it was a team effort?" He winked at her and padded over, picking up the shrew in his jaws and shrugging. He carried it to the base of a tree, quickly scraping dirt over his catch. "No matter though, we can bring it back for the clan." He flicked his tail towards her with another lopsided grin and ducked through some bushes. They were still out hunting of course. His tail flicked against his hind legs and he kept his head low. His ears twitched, searching for telltale rustlings. He kneaded the ground slightly with unsheathed claws, hoping Nightfeather had followed him as he spotted a robin. He turnd back to smile at her.
"This one's all yours." His voice was barely a whisper as he stepped aside. He wanted her to catch something. She was obviously flustered and slightly awkward though he wasn't sure why. He wanted to put her at ease. Perhaps if this didn't work then he could leave her in peace. It could be better for both of them.

Nightfeather saw Eaglewing flash her a grin and then gesture towards the shrew with his paw. "I thought we had agreed it was a team effort?" He meowed to her and then picked it up to bury it underneath a tree. "No matter though, we can bring it back for the clan." Eaglewing told her, before starting to continue on. "Yes, I suppose you're right. Plus, I already ate before I left." Nightfeather meowed quickly, trying to cover up her embarassment. The she-cat became distracted once the hunt was on once again. Not long after going out to hunt once more, Nightfeather watched as Eaglewing dropped quickly into a crouch. Nightfeather was a second behind Eaglewing into the crouch and parted her jaws to reveal that a robin was a couple tail-lengths in front of the tom. Eaglewing turned around to flash a smile at Nightfeather. "This one's all yours." The warrior told her in barely a whisper. She grinned at Eaglewing and slunk around his side to crouch next to him. The sparrow flitted around in the snow, looking for something to eat. It had it's back turned to the two cats, and didn't even seem to notice they were there. Nightfeather wiggled her rump before launching herself at the robin. It took off right before she could catch it, and with a huge launch of her back legs she caught the bird and brought it to the ground. She quickly bit down on it's neck before it could make a sound, and looked around her to see small piles of red and brown feathers. She giggled to herself and looked towards Eaglewing, wondering what he thought of her catch.
