Kestrelflight was content, in a way. She was as content as she could be. The sun was warm on her tabby fur. She had escaped camp for the momentl claiming to be taking a quick border patrol. In reality, she needed time to walk and be at peace. She needed time to regain her serenity and soothe her much frazzled nerves. Her tail swished back and forth against her back legs and her paws were almost silent as the brushed against the long blades of summer grass near the river banks. She had always loved the river and so it was here that she came in her time of unease.
She sat on the bank, curling her tail around her paws. The water looked cool and inviting, but Kestrelflight made no move towards the water. She had learned early on that the river was deceptive. It looked calm, gentle, harmless. Yet it was so easy to get caught in the current, swept away and beaten against the rocks, only to be washed up on the banks broken and sodden. It wasn't a problem for larger cats or good swimmers. Kestrelflight was a good swimmer, her leg muscles were powerful. The problem was that Kestrelflight was abnormally tiny. There were even some apprentices that outsized her, a factor she was well aware of. And so she had a healthy respect for the river, knowing full well just how powerful it was.
She sighed quietly, her tail now flicking gently at her side. She was tired, not physically but emotionally. She missed her siblings terribly and since they had departed she had been alone in Riverclan. Her clanmates had never had particularily friendly feelings for her, but at least with Eaglewing and Falconheart - she had had someone by her side. Now she was alone, and it pained her more than ever. She drew herself up, her eyes defiant. She could survive without her siblings. Truthfully, she didnt have much of a choice. Her tail flicked back and forth and she stared out across the river. Giving in would prove all those who hated her were right, but they were wrong.
SNAP!
Kestrelflight's ears perked and she turned to see who had been careless. Perhaps a chance had come to prove her own worth.

~Flamestorm As the leafless branches moved loudly overhead, he moved easily below. Flamestorm had just killed a mouse that had ventured out into the cold probably in search of food. He had burried it in the ground not too far back. It had been skinny but atleast he had caught something. He rarely returned to the camp with nothing to show for his efforts. Even if he had to be out all morning, he would try hard to bring back something to show for his determined efforts. And he was doing pretty well so far for not being out for very long. The sun was just starting to get to his orange tabby pelt. And his eyes shown with pride at his small kill. During leafbare, he was very aware of how even the smallest mouse would help the Clan survive through the next moons.
He made his way towards the river. He wasn't as lonely as he though he would be though. Normally he hunted with another cat, most of the time he asked his sister to come with him, but he thought she looked busy so he left without anyone. It would give him some alone time, something he may or may not need. He wasn't really needing alot of thinking. There wasn't alot going on right now. There were no deaths or births or anything that would affect him dirrectly. And he would love to keep it that way. He didn't want anyone dying. Especially not anyone close like Nettlewing. They had always been close and they usually did most things together.
As he headed away from the trees towards the river, he was just becoming aware of how loud his steps were becoming. But he figured there was no need to stay so quiet in his own territory. There was no need to be stalking around secretivly unless he was hunting. Which he currently wasn't doing. He just needed a drink. A nice, cold and refreshing drink. But he slowled as he came closer. There was a cat sitting by the bank. Squinting his eyes, he could tell it was Kestrelflight. He hadn't talked to her very much if at all. He hadn't really had a need to. She seemed like she perferred to stay quiet. But by the way she held her ears, he could tell that she had heard him coming. He flattened his ears some, embaressed at being so noisy but he took a few steps forward. "I'm not interupting am I? If I am, I can find another place to get a drink." He asked. He didn't want to be intruding, after all, she had been here first.

Kestrelflight blinked as Flamestorm appeared from the trees. He seemed contrite, obviously embarassed to have made such a racket. She watched him for a moment, silently analyzing the tom. She didn't have much else to do. "I'm not interupting am I? If I am, I can find another place to get a drink." She shook her head slowly and her lips twitched in the smallest of shy smiles. The broad shouldered orange tabby was harmless enough, even by Kestrelflight's standards. Her quiet musical voice was even as she spoke to him. "There's nothing here for you to interrupt." She looked away from him and back towards the water again, blinking her chocolate eyes. Her tail curled tightly around herself self-conciously.
She was aware of how abnormally petite she was in size in comparison to the large tom. She shifted her paws. She was the size of an apprentice at best. No one was really sure why she was so small, her brother had once mused that she might have some sort of growth defect. She grew indifferent to it, but it was still something she felt acutely when in the proximity of any normal sized warrior. She held her head high in any case. Kestrelflight was many things. She was shy. She was quiet. She was easily scared. She was small. But she was proud. The hair on the back of her neck prickled slightly in the silence. She wasn't used to any of her clanmates taking the time of day with her. It wasn't an unpleasant feeling, simply and unusual one.
She resisted the urge to turn back around and look at Flamestorm. He hadn't yet hurled insults her way, nor sneered, nor commented on her siblings. She was used to abuse, even from her clan. In their eyes, and in the eyes of many outside her clan, she shouldn't be alive. She was a living and breathing abomination against the warrior code. She was half clan, and no one even knew which clans held blood claim to her, Falconheart and Eaglewing. So here she was, having spent her entire life since kithood in Riverclan, and still not considered to be one of them. She wasn't trusted. She had learned to deal with it, but for so long she had yearned for someone who would just talk to her. Since Falconheart and Eaglewing left, she had been utterly alone. She was tempted to follow them, perhaps to Windclan with Falconheart or Thunderclan with Eaglewing. Yet she couldn't abandon Riverclan. No matter what her siblings thought, she was sure they had blood heritage in Riverclan. She sighed to herself.
This would have been so much easier if our parents had just claimed us. Her tail flicked with displeasure and she stood on her dainty tiny paws. Even standing, she was itty bitty. She turned around, looking at Flamestorm again. She kneaded the dirt slightly. "I was on my way in any case." Her voice was quiet as she turned away from Flamestorm and began to pad down the banks of the river towards Thunderclan territory alone.
